How does The Bonnot Company approach Extruder design?

Define Requirements:
Understand the material(s) to be processed. Define the required throughput and processing temperature. Consider the desired output shape and size.
Select Extruder Type:
Choose from our exisiting library of single-screw extruder designs.
Conduct Testing to Verify Mechanical Design:
Determine the screw geometry, including length, diameter, and pitch. Design the barrel, considering material compatibility and thermal requirements. Ensure proper heating and cooling mechanisms to control the temperature of the material during processing. Select a motor and gearbox based on the required torque and speed.
Material Handling:
Implement a feeding system that suits the material properties. Consider whether the material requires pre-processing or conditioning before entering the extruder.
Die Design:
Design the die or nozzle to achieve the desired shape and size of the extruded product. Consider the die swell and drawdown characteristics of the material.
Safety Features:
Implement safety features such as emergency stops, interlocks, and temperature sensors to prevent overheating.
Instrumentation and Control:
Install sensors and instrumentation to monitor temperature, pressure, and other relevant parameters. Implement a control system to regulate the extrusion process and ensure consistency.
